So I’m a tutor for English Honors classes.
I absolutely cannot believe the paper I just read from a male tutee. Not only did he pick the only scene of the story that explicitly describes sex in a pornographic manner (no one else did that) to write about, but he also made some very stupid stupid comments about gender and sexuality. I know that my job is to help students develop good theses and to organize their papers well, and I know that my job isn’t to judge the content of their papers, but GODDAMMIT THIS PAPER MAKES ME SO MAD.
Basically his thesis is that before science was real we thought that socialization made men and women behave differently, but now that we have science we know that men and women are biologically created to be dominant and submissive, respectively.
I feel personally attacked. I feel as though he saw me the day I came to introduce myself to the class and he immediately knew I was a feminist and now he is baiting me. How do I do this??? Am I allowed to say that I disagree with everything he said, though it is well written? Ughhhhhhhhhhhh.

I wish I had actual advice. Instead, I’m just going to say that this is gross and sucks and that I love you and send you lots of hugs.

A friend of mine was asked to critique the most racist piece-of-shit poem she had ever read in her life. It was well written but it was DISGUSTING. She basically told the writer to think about the message she was sending with the piece
